Germany vs Hungary

The hosts are back in action as they meet Hungary at the MHPArena in Stuttgart on Wednesday evening. The Germans got off to the perfect start in their opener, thrashing Scotland 5-1 to sit top of Group A of Euro 2024 after the first round of fixtures. The five different goal scorers will have also delighted manager Julian Nagelsmann, as Die Mannschaft put the Scots to the sword going into halftime with a 3-0 lead and Scotland down to 10 men. A win here all but secures their progression into the knockout stages, so don’t expect them to let up here.

In contrast, Hungary made a less-than-ideal start. They fell to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Switzerland in their opening game and that now leaves them needing at least a point here to keep their hopes of progression alive. Perhaps the occasion got to them, but they were particularly disappointing against the Swiss, being dominated in practically every meaningful way. They need a reaction here, but there will be a concern about the apparent lack of quality throughout the team. There are a couple of shining lights, though, in the form of Dominik Szoboszlai and Barnabas Varga, who linked for Hungary’s only goal on Saturday.

On balance, this looks to be only going one way. The bookies agree and have the hosts as the long odds on favourites to win the game over 90 minutes. So, in order to find some value, we’ll have to look at alternative markets. Florian Wirtz kicked off the scoring on Friday, and he’s in fantastic form; backing him to score first at a decent price or anytime, which still represents good value. We’re also looking at the correct score market and 3-1 may be worth a small bet.
