Hungary begins their Euro 2024 campaign with the first Saturday afternoon kick-off of the tournament against Switzerland at the RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne. The Hungarians were impressive in qualification, topping Group G with an unbeaten record of five wins and three draws. That will certainly have instilled plenty of confidence in Marco Rossi’s men as they aim to impress again with the eyes of the world on them. Liverpool playmaker Dominik Szoboszlai is the standout star and the one to watch. If he can bring his best form, Hungary could cause some upsets.
Switzerland’s qualification was slightly less impressive. However, they still only lost one game in Group I. Murat Yakin’s men have plenty of tournament experience under their belts, especially with the likes of Yann Sommer, Manuel Akanji, Granit Xhaka and Xherdan Shaqiri in the squad. The Swiss have a decent record against their opponents, and the last two meetings between them have produced a whopping 12 goals. They have plenty of quality in the team and a strong attacking line, so they won’t be goal-shy in this one.
On balance, Hungary’s arguably come into this in the better form. However, the Swiss have the know-how, having made the quarter-finals of the 2020 Euros. We expect a few goals in this one, with both sides possessing more quality in the final third than anywhere else on the pitch. The BTTS & Draw market could be one to hedge your bets on, with Barnabas Varga looking for a good bet to get the game’s first goal. It’s well-known from his Premier League days that Granit Xhaka likes a tackle, so he could be worth a punt to get carded in a game that we expect to be highly competitive.
