The Three Lions were incredibly fortunate to top Group C, accumulating just 5 points from one win and two draws. The more worrying thing for England fans was the performances rather than the results themselves. Gareth Southgate has come in for heavy criticism at Euro 2024, as his side has failed to reach the heights seen at previous international tournaments. Everyone knows the quality this England team possesses and it’s about time they put in a performance worthy of favourites.
Slovakia were one of the four teams to progress to the knockout stages via the best third-placed teams table. Group E was probably the most fascinating of the entire tournament, with all four teams on 3 points heading into the final round of fixtures. Slovakia ground out a 1-1 draw with Romania after taking the lead in the game and Belgium and Ukraine drew 0-0 in the other, leaving all four teams on 4 points. Slovakia scraped through in the third thanks to goal difference, but their earlier 1-0 win over Belgium showed they can be dangerous.
The bookies are keeping faith with England here and have them as the odds-on favourites to win the game in 90 minutes.
